A few days ago I published a piece about the exercise of siting a desalination plant. It travelled well. Hundreds of people read it, several wrote to me. It was a good success.

And then this comment arrived on LinkedIn:

“Is there a way to access this article other than paid subscription?”

I’ll be back later to this comment, but this reminded me of the fact that over the last few years, working inside water corporations and alongside hundreds of water professionals, I have noticed something that is incredibly easy to feel.

A lot of very good people are not enjoying their work in water as much as they should.

They are competent, they care and work hard. They are in one of the most fascinating businesses in the world.

And yet they go home exhausted, frustrated, sometimes questioning whether they are good enough or whether the effort is actually worth it.

Why?
