I’m going to share an exercise that I did some time ago when I was analysing where to deploy a desalination plant across different locations, and how those locations changed the key drivers for CAPEX, OPEX, environmental constraints, and other critical factors.
The most important point is that, during feasibility studies and infrastructure planning, you should always evaluate multiple alternatives.
For this exercise, think of the desalination plant as a black box (seawater flows in, and product water flows out).
