Let’s be honest, most professionals working in the water sector share a common feeling when it comes to industry events and conferences.
If you ask around, the response is fairly consistent.

First, a large majority — I’d say around 80% — don’t really enjoy attending them.
They feel there’s too much politics and too little real value.
Second, there’s this sense that there are simply too many of them.
Every week brings a new congress, expo, or technical session.
And what’s interesting is that both those who attend and those who don’t seem to agree on this.
Over the past 365 days, I’ve had the chance (and the challenge) to attend several of these events, from technical workshops to global summits.
So, I wanted to share a few reflections and, ultimately, what I personally learn from each of them.
Spoiler: I actually enjoy attending conferences.
Every single one gives me something new, whether it’s a talk, a casual conversation, or simply meeting new people.
The key is intention.
Another discussion, of course, is the price — which can be quite a barrier for individuals or small initiatives — but let’s get to that in a few seconds, in regard to Global Water Summit, WEx Global, etc...
