Liquid Assets: The Context of Business, Technology, and Policy
This week, we exchange insights with Ravi Kurani— a round-trip publication on his podcast and within our community | "Extraordinary Minds" Podcast in México about Water & Entrepreneurship
In November 2023, just weeks after I openly announced to family, friends (and fools) and my broader network the birth of The Water MBA, I started testing social networks to see how things would take off.
That’s when I received a message on LinkedIn from Ravi Kurani in the U.S.
He was launching a water-focused podcast, and my initiative caught his interest. He wanted to know more.
We recorded on Feb 2024 a friendly talk about Desalination, Saudi Arabia, Sustainability and The Water MBA, that was actually released a few days ago! Below the episode in case you are interested.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing Ravi’s growth—not just with his podcast Liquid Assets, but also as an entrepreneur.
One key thing about running a podcast is giving it time to compound its impact.
Liquid Assets really hit its stride back then, with a few episodes in a row that I found particularly insightful.
That’s when I thought: why not get to know Ravi’s story better?
We explored his journey in the water industry—how he started as a pool boy and eventually sold his company, which help simplify water testing and data analytics for various sectors.
Ravi is a TEDx speaker and Forbes 30 under 30 recipient. Not many people can say they’ve had such awesome experience, and since many of us have grown up watching inspiring TED speakers, I wanted to hear his take on that experience as well.
Ravi is also deeply aware of the value of being part of a strong community. He’s involved in Hampton, a network for founders and entrepreneurs, and understands the power of surrounding oneself with great people.
Of course, we also talked about water—his motivation behind launching the podcast and our shared perspectives on the industry.
One key takeaway?
He recommended Hydro Sapiens as a must-listen episode. I agree—it’s an extraordinary one, and I’ve linked it below for you to check out.
The Complement
In our episode, I recommended one book—Skin in the Game.
Why?
A few years back, when I first read it, I had a wow moment—what a world we have.
It helped me understand so many aspects of life, business, people, and society.
And what’s curious is that since then, I keep identifying new layers I hadn’t seen before.
So, get ready to question the reality around you!.
"Extraordinary Minds" Podcast
Making water visible outside the water industry is one of the barriers you constantly mention.
How can we expect society to understand our role if it is not explained, communicated, and conveyed effectively?
They don't value water because they don't see or hear about it, and the little they do hear is either too technical or boring.
Fortunately, we have people like Antonio Botello, who invited us to talk about water and entrepreneurship on his amazing podcast Mentes Extraordinarias.
Mexico, in particular, is one of the countries that will face the greatest water-related challenges in the coming years.
It was a fantastic experience, and I am very grateful to Toño and his team for the excellent treatment and interest they showed, even off-camera. Without a doubt, they are people with whom it's a pleasure to collaborate.
💡 What do you want The Water MBA to bring for you in the next season?
To help us shape the next steps (along with our usual surprises 😉), I’ve prepared a short questionnaire—10 questions, it won’t take more than 3 minutes.
