The Water MBA

The Water MBA

Is "The Water MBA" the new "GWI"?

GWI is the “dominant” niche player that essentially taxes the global water industry’s need for information.

Last year, at several events, I was asked whether The Water MBA would become the future Global Water Intelligence (GWI).

I laughed and said I appreciated the high regard people have for our community.

Then I thought:

why not analyze GWI’s business case in detail and understand what differentiates it from what we do?

It would also help me better understand industry trends, our community’s potential, and how we can leverage new approaches.

So that’s what I’ve been working on, and now I’m sharing it with you, connecting it to what we do today and what we aim to build in the future.

The company

A powerful way to understand a company’s value is through its growth story.

GWI operates under “Media Analytics Limited”, a UK-registered company with subsidiaries in the US and China.

It provides market intelligence & data, industry reports, and organizes global conferences for the water sector.

Imagine that the current owner, Christopher Gasson, acquired the business in 2002 for £17,000, when it had just a few subscribers.

Today, it may be valued in the millions.
