Intersection of Water, Industry, and Innovation: Green Hydrogen
The role of emerging technologies like green hydrogen, and insights from industry leaders such as Israel Hurtado from H2 Mexico. Mastering the little things in project management changes everything.
Water is not independent of the dynamics of other industries, and this plays out in two key ways.
First, it’s widely recognized that other industries often pay more to professionals, which makes it challenging to retain talent in the water sector or encourage new talent to enter it.
This has been especially true in recent years with the renewables sector, where subsidies attracted talent because, in the end, you must follow the flow of money.
Second, if new technologies can be indirectly linked to water, we must stay updated on what's happening. Continuous learning is essential.
Lately, there has been a global push to continue researching and exploring green hydrogen.
While hydrogen has been used for many years, the color difference indicates its extraction origin (for example, grey, blue, pink, etc.).
A few months back, I asked myself:
Which countries have a high potential for renewable energy (solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, etc.) and also face significant water stress and security challenges?
We find countries like Spain, Saudi Arabia, Chile, and Mexico—which is our focus today.
Israel Hurtado is a privileged guest, and just hearing about his professional background shows that he is someone exceptional.
He is the president of the H2 Mexico Association, and in our discussion, we talked about the current status of green hydrogen, its origins, its purpose, the challenges with electrolysers, the role of water and the potential for China in the coming years.
Interestingly, he doesn’t seem interested in traveling to Mars with green hydrogen, despite humans having traveled to the Moon with grey hydrogen! :)
These are the types of talks and professionals we need to gather here—open discussions, debates, and staying informed. Israel shared everything he had inside, and we are deeply grateful for that.
This is our second guest discussing hydrogen in The Water MBA, and it perfectly complements the deep dive episodes we’ve already had, both in English and Spanish, with our friend Diego Toscano from Cox.
Project Management
Our project management channel was launched with a couple of short episodes.
Our goal is to share practical knowledge, pose real questions, and explore common challenges.
Over time, we plan to bring in guests to dive deeper into this topic, gradually increasing the value of the learning experience.
What are we talking about?
Approved Vendor List (AVL) — a concept we explored in depth in our LinkedIn newsletter.
But trust me, once you learn the two or three tricks that experienced players use, you'll never look at an AVL the same way again.
From now on, you’ll approach it with a sharper, more critical perspective.
